Karlstalschlucht offers scenic hiking in the Palatinate Forest

The Karlstalschlucht near Trippstadt is highlighted as one of the most impressive hiking destinations in the Palatinate Forest. A 12-kilometer route explores the gorge and the adjacent Moosalb valley, passing through scenic landscapes where the Moosalb river has carved deep into the sandstone over millennia.

The trail features narrow valley floors, steep forested slopes, and moss-covered rocks, with paths frequently crossing the water via small bridges and walkways. Notable landmarks along the route include the Klug’scher Mühle (also known as the Wilensteiner Mühle), which serves as a reminder of the historical importance of water power and iron processing in the Karlstal region.
