Karmelita monastery interior lacks expected luxury, New York Times reports

A report by The New York Times regarding the Karmelita monastery, the former workplace of Viktor Orbán, suggests the building's interior does not match descriptions of extreme luxury previously provided by political figures like Péter Magyar.

According to the journalist's on-site assessment, the interior is not particularly opulent, instead resembling a high-end boutique hotel rather than a decadent dictator's palace. The report notes that the decor lacks the ostentatious gold and extravagance associated with historical authoritarian residences.

Furthermore, the report highlights a small relaxation room near Orbán's former office that was described as having a "monastic simplicity," containing basic furniture such as a narrow metal bed and a simple wardrobe. While the room features valuable paintings on loan from national museum collections, the overall atmosphere was noted by visitors as being less grand than expected.
