Karmelo Anthony family seeks $250,000 for murder appeal

The family of Karmelo Anthony is seeking to raise an additional $250,000 to fund his legal appeal following his conviction for the murder of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Anthony, 19, was sentenced to 35 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of the fatal stabbing that occurred during a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.

The new fundraising effort, announced during a news conference in Dallas, aims to cover costs for legal representation, expert witnesses, and other appellate expenses. Anthony has claimed he lacks the financial resources to hire an attorney for the process.

The request for more funds has drawn scrutiny regarding a previous GiveSendGo campaign that raised approximately $634,000. While that campaign was intended for legal fees, it also stated a portion would cover the family’s living and security expenses. During the Dallas news conference, representatives for the family declined to comment on how the previous donations were spent.
