Karmelo Anthony’s $630K GiveSendGo fundraiser closed after Texas murder conviction
The crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo shut down the campaign created for 19‑year‑old Karmelo Anthony after a Texas jury convicted him of murdering 17‑year‑old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco high‑school track meet. The fundraiser, launched in April 2025, had collected roughly $630,000, which was used for Anthony’s legal fees and to cover family relocation, living expenses, transportation and counseling. GiveSendGo said, “We allowed this campaign while the defendant was presumed innocent and facing legal proceedings. Now that the trial has concluded and the intended purpose has been met, the campaign has been closed.”
Claims that Anthony’s parents purchased a house with the money were disproved, though the family did use the funds for relocation and other necessities. Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
