Karnataka BJP protests over state fiscal constraints

The BJP staged a protest at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, accusing the Congress-led Karnataka government of mismanagement and steering the state toward a financial crisis. The demonstration was led by BJP state president B Y Vijayendra and other senior leaders.

The protest follows a warning from the Karnataka Finance Department regarding limited fiscal space. The department cautioned against initiating major expenditure projects, such as the proposed Rs 10,000 crore Chief Minister's Rural Road Connectivity Scheme, without adequate budgeting or earmarked funds. The department noted that Karnataka's fiscal deficit for 2026-27 is projected at 2.95 per cent, nearing the 3 per cent limit permitted under the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management framework.
