Karnataka BJP says farmers largely oppose Bidadi township project

State BJP President B Y Vijayendra said more than 80 % of farmers near Bidadi are against the proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT) and warned that some have been threatened by "goondas" to relinquish land at low prices. He urged Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to halt the acquisition of nearly 500 acres, accusing the government of portraying fertile farmland as barren to justify a forced takeover.

Senior BJP leaders R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy echoed the opposition, noting the area produces coconut, arecanut, mulberry and substantial milk output, and arguing that displacing farming families would jeopardise their livelihoods. The party pledged to support the agitating farmers politically and legally, while the state government maintains that 80 % of landowners have consented to the project.
