Karnataka CM D K Shivakumar rides metro to thank voters in Kanakapura

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar made his first visit to his home constituency of Kanakapura on 7 June, traveling by Bengaluru’s Namma Metro from Vidhana Soudha to Central Silk Board. He said the choice avoided traffic disruption and saved commuters’ time, adding, “I don’t want to waste the time of the common man.” During the ride he greeted passengers, interacted with commuters and was welcomed by local crowds with drums and flags.

The metro journey was part of a “gratitude tour” to thank voters who have supported him for decades. While in Kanakapura, the CM announced that his cabinet will provide free bus passes to all school and college students in Karnataka, expanding a prior scheme that had covered only girls. The move aims to promote public transport and youth empowerment across the state.
