Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar announces coastal development and addresses regional issues
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has undertaken several regional visits and announced major development initiatives. In Mangaluru, Shivakumar conducted a surprise early-morning inspection of the fishing harbour to address issues faced by fishermen and traders. He expressed displeasure over the halting of business activities during his visit and ordered an inquiry. The state cabinet also approved a development package exceeding Rs 16,000 crore for coastal Karnataka, focusing on tourism, the blue economy, and infrastructure, including a proposed Fisheries and Blue Economy University.
In the Malnad and coastal regions, the Chief Minister held dialogues regarding the Kasturirangan report, which concerns the protection of the Western Ghats. He assured residents that the government would consider a physical survey and discuss the matter in the state Assembly. Meanwhile, in Kalaburagi, Shivakumar announced the establishment of a Kalyana Karnataka Economy Mission and a Bio Economy Mission to drive industrial and agricultural growth in the region.
Politically, Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy stated that the Vokkaliga community continues to support former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda. Additionally, the BJP staged protests in Shikaripura, accusing the state government of neglecting farmers, particularly those living near forest fringes affected by environmental reports.
