Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar Defends Gruha Guarantees and Announces PM‑backed Bidadi Township Project

On June 14, 2026, Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised his plan to create townships to decongest Bengaluru, specifically the Bidadi township project. Shivakumar quoted Modi as telling him, “DK you are doing a good job, the pressure on Bengaluru needs to be reduced,” and noted the prime minister cited his own experience with several townships.

Shivakumar also rejected rumours that the state would discontinue the Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyoti guarantee schemes. Gruha Lakshmi provides a cash grant of ₹2,000 to women heads of families below the poverty line, while Gruha Jyoti offers free electricity up to 200 units per household. He said, “All guarantee schemes will continue one hundred percent and that no one need to be anxious,” and explained that beneficiaries must re‑apply to verify their details after cases of fraud involving deceased persons.
