Karnataka CM Shivakumar pledges no forced land acquisition in Bidadi township plan

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told the Karnataka legislature that the government will not forcibly acquire any farmer’s land for the proposed Bidadi township, part of the Greater Bangalore Integrated Township project. He said that land offered voluntarily will be compensated and a committee will be created to hear farmers’ views.

Farmers have staged protests demanding fair compensation. The state has proposed providing roughly 8,000 sq ft of land per acre and a monetary settlement of about ₹22‑25 lakh per acre. The dispute also mirrors political tension between Shivakumar and former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who have exchanged accusations of real‑estate fraud and misuse of the project.
