Karnataka CM Shivakumar rolls out first cabinet expansion, second list pending

Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of Karnataka announced the first batch of a cabinet expansion, appointing 13 ministers and retaining key departments such as Finance, Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, and Intelligence. Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara received the Revenue and Sports portfolio, while Priyank Kharge was given Home (excluding Intelligence) together with IT & BT and e‑Governance. Other allocations included Public Works to Satish Jarkiholi, Food & Civil Supplies to K H Muniyappa, Large and Medium Industries to M B Patil, Energy and Tourism to K J George, and Greater Bengaluru Development to Krishna Byre Gowda, among several additional assignments.

Minister Ramalinga Reddy resigned two days after being sworn in with the Major and Medium Irrigation portfolio, but withdrew his resignation after discussions with senior Congress leaders, who said his experience was vital to the party.

Congress MLA Abbayya Prasad said she is a candidate for a ministerial post and expects her name to appear in the second list of cabinet ministers, which is likely to be announced after the Rajya Sabha elections conclude on June 18. In the same period, BJP MLA S T Somashekhar from Tumkur announced his intention to leave the BJP before the 2028 elections.

The second batch of ministers is therefore anticipated after June 18, completing the full state government formation.
