Karnataka contractors demand Rs 38,000 crore in pending dues

The Karnataka State Contractors’ Association has alleged that approximately Rs 38,000 crore in payments remain pending across eight government departments. Association President R. Manjunath warned that if these dues are not cleared by November, the group will release documents regarding bribes received as commissions. The association further claimed that the Congress government is diverting funds intended for contractors to finance state guarantee schemes and is prioritizing contractors who pay commissions.

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar responded by attributing the state’s financial difficulties to the previous BJP administration, stating that projects initiated under former Chief Minister Yediyurappa were started beyond the available budget. Regarding the allegations of commission demands, Shivakumar stated that the association should submit an affidavit so the matter can be investigated. He noted that he would consider clearing bills for works completed during the previous tenure to ensure contractor survival.
