Karnataka Deputy CM G. Parameshwara Preps for Super El Niño Drought, Defends Bidadi Township Project

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara chaired a high‑level disaster‑management review, directing officials to draft district‑wise action plans for a possible Super El Niño‑induced drought. He urged swift approval of borewell drilling and coordinated monitoring of reservoirs, groundwater and water consumption, noting that 122 taluks face drinking‑water shortages.

Parameshwara also addressed criticism over the proposed Bidadi township project, saying the state will proceed only after resolving farmers’ concerns and securing their consent. He rejected politicisation, stating “the government has no intention of displacing farmers” and called for constructive suggestions from Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.
