Karnataka CM announces AI education and Bengaluru policing reforms
Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has announced a series of major administrative, educational, and economic initiatives during an Independence Day address. To prepare students for a technological era, the state will introduce artificial intelligence education from Class 6 through the ‘AI Akshara Abhiyana’ and ‘Coding Gurukula’ programmes. Additionally, the government plans to establish India’s first government-owned AI university in Bengaluru.
In terms of governance and public safety, the Bengaluru Police Commissionerate will be reorganized into five separate commissionerates. The government has also constituted the Greater Bengaluru Authority and five Municipal Corporations to decentralize administration. To promote educational equity, the ‘Vidyarthi Sahayahasta’ scheme will provide a 7.5 per cent reservation for students from rural government schools in professional courses.
Economically, the state aims to reach a $3 trillion economy by 2047. To support this, the government intends to fill 72,000 vacancies and provide incentives for job creation through the ‘Udyoga Nidhi’ scheme. Furthermore, a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy is being developed to utilize grants for developing schools at panchayat headquarters.
