Karnataka electoral roll revision faces complaints of irregularities from BJP and JD(S)

A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) submitted a complaint to Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbukkumar alleging massive irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The complaint states that Booth Level Officers are not conducting mandatory door‑to‑door verification, that enumeration forms are being filled in bulk at community halls, mosques and other venues, and that WhatsApp groups are being used to mobilise voters, breaching SIR guidelines and threatening the neutrality of the electoral process.

Senior Union Ministers, including Pralhad Joshi and H. D. Kumaraswamy, later met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi and presented a detailed memorandum demanding an immediate suspension of the SIR in Karnataka, a re‑verification of all collected enumeration forms, appointment of central observers for each district, and strict legal action against officials and political functionaries alleged to have facilitated the violations. The delegation highlighted that nearly 72% of the SIR exercise was completed within six days, a pace they described as unusually rapid.

Both the state‑level delegation and the central ministers called for strict enforcement of the Election Commission’s guidelines to preserve the integrity of the electoral rolls.
