Karnataka farmers sustain 495‑day protest against Bidadi Township land acquisition
Farmers in Karnataka have been demonstrating for 495 days against the state government's final notification to acquire land for the Bidadi Township project. The protesters blocked the Bidadi‑Harohalli road, displayed stacks of paddy and shouted slogans such as “the government is dead to us,” causing traffic disruption. Police eventually cleared the road after negotiations.
The protestors, backed by JDS youth leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy, demanded the immediate withdrawal of a police FIR filed against them and called on national leader Rahul Gandhi to visit Bidadi instead of the Andaman islands. They accused the Congress state government of repression and threatened further action if their demands are not met.
