Karnataka food safety officials issue notices to 25 sweet shops
The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department in Karnataka has conducted a special inspection drive targeting sweet manufacturing units and sales outlets. Over a two-day period, officials inspected 186 locations and issued notices to 25 food business operators for various violations.
Common infractions identified during the inspections included unhygienic food preparation and storage conditions, a lack of valid medical fitness certificates for food handlers, missing registration or licenses, labeling deficiencies, and inadequate record-keeping. During the drive, 270 food samples were collected and sent to government laboratories for analysis.
Notices were issued across multiple districts, including Bagalkote, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Kolar, Koppal, Kodagu, Mysuru Rural, Hassan, Chikkaballapura, and Chitradurga, as well as within the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and various BBMP zones. Specific establishments, such as Vallabhaji Sweets and Sai Sweets, were flagged for operating without required registration, while others faced fines for hygiene-related violations.
