Karnataka forest officials seize wild meat in Hanur Wildlife Range
Forest officials in Karnataka's Hanur Wildlife Range, part of the Cauvery Wildlife Division, seized between 20 and 30 kg of wild animal meat during a combing operation on August 15, 2026. The operation, conducted under the supervision of Chamarajanagar District Collector Dinesh Kumar Meena, also resulted in the seizure of four tents and other materials.
During the investigation, officials reported significant vandalism by miscreants, including damage to seven anti-poaching camp sheds and nine residential houses. Additionally, one government four-wheeler and four department two-wheelers were vandalized. Forest officials have filed police complaints regarding these losses.
The operation follows the killing of three Tamil residents in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary area. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay condemned the deaths, describing the incident as a ‘massacre’ and calling for a high-level investigation.
