Karnataka forms cabinet sub-committee for education reforms

The Karnataka government has established a five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee to address student concerns and recommend comprehensive education reforms. Chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister U. T. Khader, the panel includes ministers Basavaraj Rayareddy, Priyank Kharge, Sharan Prakash Patil, and Madhu Bangarappa.

The committee is tasked with investigating several critical areas, including the integrity of examinations and recruitment processes to prevent question-paper leaks and malpractice. It will also look into establishing a fixed, time-bound academic and recruitment calendar.

Further mandates include regulating fee structures at private institutions and coaching centers, improving infrastructure in government schools and universities—such as laboratories and hostels—and aligning curricula with industry needs through apprenticeships and skill development. Additionally, the panel will focus on student mental health, suicide prevention in coaching hubs, and increasing equitable access to scholarships and resources for marginalized groups, including SC/ST, OBC, and minority students.
