Karnataka government raises vehicle purchase limit for Ministers and MPs to Rs 31 lakh

The Karnataka government has increased the vehicle purchase limit for state Ministers and members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The new ceiling is set at Rs 31 lakh, inclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST), calculated at the ex-showroom rate.

This revision raises the limit from the previous ceiling of Rs 26 lakh, which had been established in August 2022. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR-State Protocol) issued the order, noting that officials should select fuel-efficient vehicles with low maintenance costs.

The decision comes as the state faces significant economic challenges due to severe drought conditions, with estimated losses of Rs 46,000 crore across 177 taluks. While the state seeks central assistance for crop losses, officials stated the increase accounts for rising vehicle prices.
