Karnataka High Court extends stay in US tourist rape case and halts FIRs against doctor reporting illegal immigrants

The Karnataka High Court, sitting with Justice M. Nagaprasanna, extended the interim stay on all proceedings against the owner of a Kodagu homestay who was charge‑sheeted under the repealed Foreigners Act in connection with the alleged rape of a U.S. tourist. The court ordered the petitioner to serve a complete set of papers to the victim’s counsel and listed the matter for further hearing on 12 August 2026.

In a separate order, the same bench stayed two FIRs lodged against a Bengaluru doctor who had alerted authorities to the alleged illegal stay of Bangladeshi migrants. Justice Nagaprasanna questioned the police for registering criminal cases against the doctor and directed that the Foreigners Regional Registration Office be impleaded as a respondent. The case is scheduled for further hearing on 6 August 2026.
