Karnataka High Court scrutinizes arrest of Bengaluru doctor

A Bengaluru doctor, Dr. Nagendra, was arrested after reporting two individuals suspected of being illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Following his report to authorities, the two individuals filed counter-complaints alleging assault and criminal intimidation, leading the Bellandur and Varthur police to register FIRs and arrest the doctor.

Dr. Nagendra has since approached the Karnataka High Court to quash the FIRs, arguing the cases are retaliatory. During a hearing on July 28, 2026, a single-judge bench led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna questioned the police conduct, specifically why they acted on the counter-complaints without first verifying the status of the complainants or the validity of the allegations.
