Karnataka honors legacies of Narana Guru and Ramakrishna Hegde
Commemorations were held in Gadag to honor the legacy of Narana Guru, a social reformer who advocated for equality, brotherhood, and social justice. During the Narana Guru Jayanti event, District Collector C. N. Sridhar emphasized that the reformer's message against caste and religious discrimination remains highly relevant. Narana Guru fought against untouchability and worked to ensure religious rights for marginalized communities by establishing temples and promoting education.
Separately, tributes were paid to mark the birth centenary of Ramakrishna Hegde, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka. Speakers highlighted his role as a statesman who prioritized value-based politics and administrative transparency. Hegde is noted for his significant contributions to political decentralization, specifically through the implementation of the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Panchayat systems in Karnataka in 1983, and his ability to connect directly with the public through programs like Janatadarshana.
