Karnataka identifies 1,000 illegal immigrants in crackdown

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge announced that state authorities have identified around 1,000 illegal immigrants over the past three months, most of whom are from Bangladesh, Africa and other regions. The crackdown, centred on Bengaluru slums, has led to the arrest of dozens of Bangladeshi nationals and others, with the government pledging continuous vigilance and the formation of a special team if needed.

Kharge urged the central government to assist Karnataka, noting that the state does not share an international border and questioning how migrants are entering the region. He also warned against citizen vigilantism and “social media activism,” calling for information to be reported to police rather than posted online. Coordination with the Border Security Force and the Foreigners Regional Registration Office is ongoing.
