Karnataka launches India's first dedicated menopause and menstrual health policy

The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department, led by Minister U.T. Khader, announced a new women’s health policy named "Ruthutaare" (also referred to as "Ruthu Thare"). The policy, described as the first of its kind in India, will focus on menopause, menstrual health and preventive care for women.

Actress and former MP Ramya has been appointed brand ambassador. A committee headed by Dr. Jyotsna Mirlay, a specialist in menopause and mid‑life women’s health, will guide the programme. ASHA workers will conduct door‑to‑door surveys over the next six months to collect data, raise awareness about lifestyle, nutrition and self‑care, and identify women needing early medical attention. The plan also includes setting up dedicated mid‑life health clinics and will be presented to the Union Ministry of Health for possible national rollout.
