Karnataka leaders criticize BJP over communalism and religious politics

Political leaders in Karnataka have issued sharp criticisms against the BJP, focusing on both regional development and the use of religion in politics.

Minister Priyank Kharge attacked the BJP's influence in coastal Karnataka, accusing the party of using the region as a laboratory for communalism. He stated that while the BJP focused on provocative rhetoric, his government has prioritized development through initiatives such as data centers, water metros, tourism, marine biotechnology, and information technology. Kharge also highlighted the government's decision to recognize Tulu as a second official language and noted a historical development package of 32,611 crore rupees for three coastal districts.

Separately, KPCC President B. K. Hariprasad criticized the current political climate, alleging that religion has been increasingly used for political purposes since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister. Speaking at a meeting for construction workers, Hariprasad argued that religious practices should remain personal and not be used as political tools. He emphasized the importance of labor rights and the contributions of farmers and workers to national progress, urging leaders to focus on improving lives rather than engaging in identity politics.
