Karnataka Housing Department Minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan has requested an exemption from hoisting the national flag during the 80th Independence Day celebrations in Vijayanagara. In a letter to Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, the minister also requested to be relieved of his duties as the district in-charge minister.

Khan cited personal reasons, upcoming local body elections, Assembly bypolls, and party organizational work as factors that would leave him with insufficient time to fulfill these responsibilities. The request has drawn criticism from the BJP, which accused the minister of prioritizing party duties over national obligations.
