Karnataka ministers lead Independence Day events amid drought and political protests

In Raichur, Minister-in-charge Ajay Singh performed flag hoisting ceremonies to mark Independence Day. During the event, Singh addressed the severe drought affecting the district, noting a 29 percent deficit in rainfall. He reported that only 2.36 lakh hectares have been planted against a target of 5 lakh hectares. Singh stated that the government is working to provide compensation for crop damage and has allocated 4 crore rupees for drinking water issues, with 1 lakh rupees in emergency relief released to each taluk.

Separately, in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, the BJP staged a protest against Minister B. Z. Jamir Ahmed Khan. The controversy arose after Khan requested exemption from flag hoisting duties in Vijayanagara, citing a lack of time due to upcoming elections and organizational activities. The government reassigned the duty to Minister K. S. Basavanthappa. BJP members characterized Khan's request as an insult to the nation and demanded his removal from the cabinet.
