Karnataka Opposition Leader R Ashoka Blames Congress Govt for Cauvery Water Shortage

Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka warned that severe water shortages have left reservoirs dry and forced Bengaluru residents to receive water only once every four days, reducing supply to about five million people. He accused the Congress‑led central government of releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu to please the party high command, alleging collusion and a failure to protect Karnataka's interests.

Ashoka highlighted that the central government has already cleared the Mekedatu project and called for an all‑party meeting, an immediate appeal, and the release of ₹10,000 crore to commence the project's foundation stone laying. He also cited the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee’s recommendation to release 3,500 cusecs per day to Tamil Nadu for the next fifteen days.
