Karnataka pharmaceutical plant leak kills three workers

A chemical leak at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in the Kadechur‑Badiala industrial area of Yadgir district, Karnataka, caused three workers to die and two others to be seriously injured in the early hours of 5 August. The victims were identified as Vikram Singh (30) and Sanjay Singh (29) from Madhya Pradesh and Ganesh from Telangana; the injured, Shivakumar and Hemanth, are being treated at Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences, with one in critical condition.

Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tukaram Pandve and Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar inspected the site, confirming that a pipeline leak released sulphur‑dioxide gas during a thionyl‑chloride process. An FIR has been lodged against the factory, its manager and officials, and the National Disaster Response Force, along with forensic experts, have been deployed to determine the cause and any safety lapses. Authorities have ordered the company to implement all required safety measures and are arranging compensation for the victims' families.
