Karnataka Police Arrested in Custodial Death of Labourer Khaleel

Two police officers – Head Constable Ittagi Raghavendra and Police Constable Venkatesh – were arrested after the death of 35‑year‑old construction labourer Khaleel at Hagaribommanahalli Police Station in Karnataka's Vijayanagara district. Khaleel, who had been taken into custody following a domestic dispute, died from injuries alleged to have been caused by police beating, contradicting an initial claim of an epileptic seizure. Superintendent of Police S. Jahnavi registered an FIR, ordered an inquest and a post‑mortem, and indicated that the case will be handed to the Criminal Investigation Department for further probe. Senior officials, including the Range Inspector General of Police, visited the station to oversee the investigation.
