Karnataka police stop Tamil Nadu farmers' train and ban film screenings amid Kaveri water protests

Tamil Nadu farmers traveling by train to Delhi to protest the Kaveri water dispute were stopped by Karnataka police in Nagpur and forced to disembark, sparking unrest. The farmers had planned the protest after the Karnataka government refused to release the 3,500 cusecs of water ordered by the Kaveri Management Board for a 15‑day period.

In parallel, screenings of the Tamil film “Jananayagan”, starring Vijay, were halted in multiple Karnataka cities, including Bangalore and Samraj Nagar, and promotional posters were removed. The bans followed protests linked to the same Kaveri water issue, with demonstrators targeting theaters as part of the broader agitation. The developments have heightened tensions between the two states, and the Tamil Nadu government is expected to take action.
