Karnataka politics face scrutiny over honey trap claims and water disputes
Political tensions in Karnataka have escalated following claims by Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar regarding alleged ‘honey trap’ attempts via sting operations targeting him and several Cabinet ministers. R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, has demanded that the Chief Minister release specific evidence, such as photographs and documents, and file a formal FIR to ensure government credibility and security.
In response, BJP leaders B. Y. Vijayendra and R. Ashoka have criticized the state government’s handling of various issues. Vijayendra accused the administration of using intimidation tactics against BJP workers and failing to address farmer distress and drought. Additionally, the BJP has raised objections to the state government’s decision to release water from the Narayanpur reservoir to Telangana, questioning whether the interests of Karnataka’s farmers are being compromised.
Separately, in Kalaburagi district, a police constable named Hanumantha was suspended after a viral video appeared to show him consuming alcohol on the terrace of a mosque in Harasuru village while on duty. The suspension followed a preliminary inquiry by the Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police.
