Karnataka Public Schools initiative expands education access

Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa has highlighted the Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) initiative as an ambitious state project. The program aims to provide quality education from LKG to Class 12 in both Kannada and English mediums under a single roof.

During a foundation stone laying ceremony for a new KPS building in Shivamogga, Bangarappa noted that the construction is being funded at a cost of Rs 13.5 crore through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by the Ajax Engineering Charitable Trust. The project aligns with the “Namma Shaale Namma Javabdhari” (Our School, Our Responsibility) concept, which emphasizes community participation in developing government schools.

Currently, 11 KPS schools are operational in the Shivamogga district. An additional 24 schools have been sanctioned with assistance from the Asian Development Bank. Furthermore, a CSR-funded project aims to develop 1,000 KPS schools across the state, with ongoing work to establish 35 such schools specifically within the Shivamogga district.
