Karnataka SIR delivers over half of enumeration forms within five days

Karnataka’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list has accelerated, with 2,78,21,970 enumeration forms distributed – representing 50.19 % of the state’s 5.54 crore registered voters – in the first five days of the house‑to‑house verification that runs from 30 June to 29 July. A total of 6,352 polling stations (10.76 %) have completed 100 % distribution and another 5,538 stations (9.38 %) have reached above 90 %.

Digitisation of the forms is progressing more slowly: 1,78,83,30 forms (3.23 % of voters) have been digitised, with two stations achieving full digitisation and seven stations surpassing the 90 % mark. Only 77,624 voters (0.14 %) have submitted their forms online. During verification, officials identified 28,611 voters under the ASDDEO categories (absent, shifted, deceased, duplicate), along with additional cases of missing or relocated voters.

Industry and steel minister H. D. Kumaraswamy criticised the SIR process on Saturday, alleging a lack of reliability and calling for its cancellation. The Karnataka BJP unit has also lodged a complaint with the Election Commission, demanding fresh SIR exercises in areas where irregularities have emerged.
