Karnataka student protests lead to promises on college safety and KEA recruitment reforms

In Raichur, the roof of the Government Boys' PU College collapsed during a class, narrowly avoiding casualties. About 400 students staged a prolonged protest demanding urgent repairs and construction of a new building. Local officials, including the tahsildar and the pre‑university education director, pledged written assurances for immediate repairs and a new structure, after which the protest was called off.

Separately, agriculture university students protested the Karnataka Examination Authority's (KEA) decision to allow BE and B.Tech graduates to apply for Assistant Officer and Assistant Agricultural Officer posts. The demonstrators met Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, who said the policy change stemmed from amendments made during the previous BJP government. He promised a legal review, corrective action, and measures to protect agricultural graduates' employment opportunities.
