Karnataka to build 1,582 toilets in 1,250 government schools
The Karnataka government has announced plans to construct 1,582 toilets across 1,250 government schools throughout the state during the 2025-26 period. This initiative will be implemented under the State Sector Scheme, as confirmed by School Education and Literacy Minister Madhu Bangarappa during a Legislative Assembly session.
In addition to the State Sector Scheme, 136 toilets have been sanctioned under the Samagra Shikshana Karnataka scheme for the same period. Financial allocations include Rs 5.04 crore remaining under the State Sector Scheme for toilet construction and Rs 544 lakh released under the Samagra Shikshana Karnataka scheme. The government has also allocated Rs 23.17 crore for classroom construction and Rs 48.55 crore under the PM SHRI scheme for 216 classrooms.
Minister Bangarappa noted that funding priority was initially given to schools with higher student populations. Consequently, the government is now reviewing a proposal to use remaining funds to build toilets in nine government schools within the Hirekerur constituency, which includes facilities for both boys and girls.
