Karnataka CM DK Shivakumar sworn in, cabinet formation begins

DK Shivakumar was sworn in as Karnataka’s chief minister on June 3, 2026 at the Glass House in Lok Bhavan, Bengaluru. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, with Shivakumar holding a copy of the Constitution. Deputy chief minister G Parameshwara and 12 other ministers, including Yathindra Siddaramaiah, were sworn in alongside him.

Congress leaders are finalising a larger cabinet. The high command plans an initial batch of about ten to twelve ministers, balancing regional, caste and experience considerations, with further expansions expected after the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections. Senior figures such as Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and other state chief ministers attended the ceremony.

In the days leading up to the swearing‑in, Shivakumar thanked the Gandhi family for shaping his career, outlined a “Yuva Yuga” vision for the state, and pledged inclusive governance. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah was appointed to the Congress Working Committee, and his son Yathindra Siddaramaiah expressed confidence about securing a cabinet berth.
