Łeba museum hosts Baltic Sea ecology and archaeology festival

The Museum of Underwater Archaeology and Baltic Fisheries in Łeba hosted the ‘Baltic Eco-Guards’ educational festival, attracting over 400 students from the Pomerania region. Although the museum is not yet officially open to the public, the event provided an opportunity for students to explore marine secrets, climate change, and environmental protection.

Participants engaged in interactive scientific demonstrations led by the Heweliusze Nauki group, focusing on ocean ecology and marine conservation. The program included various educational stations where students learned about Baltic fossils, amber, and the impact of climate change. Additionally, the festival emphasized sustainability by demonstrating methods for reusing waste, such as creating phone cases from coffee grounds.

Geologist Maciej Malinowski highlighted the significance of the region's natural history, noting that the area contains fossils dating back approximately half a billion years due to glacial activity. The event also featured exhibits of ancient remains, including mammoth tusks and Megaloceras antlers found along the coast and in nearby forests.
