Karol Nawrocki faces legal and political scrutiny in Poland
Polish President Karol Nawrocki is facing significant political and legal challenges. Former President Aleksander Kwaśniewski has criticized Nawrocki’s actions regarding the Constitutional Tribunal, alleging that the President’s refusal to accept the oath of properly elected judges constitutes a violation of the constitution. Kwaśniewski suggested that if the State Tribunal were functional, Nawrocki should face accountability for these actions.
Separately, a Warsaw District Court has denied a request from Nawrocki’s legal team to allow him to provide written testimony in a lawsuit against the publisher Onet. The lawsuit concerns an article published before the 2025 presidential elections, which alleged misconduct during Nawrocki’s former employment as a security guard at the Grand Hotel in Sopot. The court ruled that Nawrocki must testify either in person or via video link during a hearing scheduled for January 18, 2027, or his testimony may be disregarded.
