Karol Nawrocki engages with special forces and expands political influence

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has been active in several high-profile political and military engagements. He recently visited the elite JW Formoza special forces unit in Gdynia to observe tactical training and participate in a strength training session with the commandos. During the visit, he emphasized the importance of specialized military capabilities in protecting critical infrastructure and addressing hybrid threats.

Politically, Nawrocki is positioning himself as a central figure for the right-wing opposition. Zbigniew Bogucki, head of the President's Chancellery, indicated that Nawrocki is willing to act as a patron for a potential right-wing Senate pact ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political analysts, including Professor Antoni Dudek, suggest Nawrocki aims to expand presidential powers, potentially moving toward a presidential system through constitutional changes or new legislation to increase influence over the military. This ambition has drawn criticism from Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, who urged the President to prioritize cooperation with the government over political contestation to ensure national security.
