Karol Nawrocki’s presidential agenda criticised by former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski

Former Polish president Aleksander Kwaśniewski said Karol Nawrocki, the candidate supported by the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, aims to make the presidency stronger without changing the constitution. Kwaśniewski warned that Nawrocki, who nominates the prime minister, wants to extend his term and shift parliamentary power toward the right by 2027. He described Nawrocki’s rhetoric as unusually brutal and noted the candidate is culturally closer to the far‑right Confederation than to PiS. Kwaśniewski also compared Nawrocki’s attitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying the Polish leader admires Trump’s “unrestrained” style.

Kwaśniewski’s interview, published by Onet, suggested that Nawrocki’s strategy could deepen political divisions and alter the balance of power in Poland’s government.
