Karolos Koun Art Theatre establishes New Director Award

The Karolos Koun Art Theatre has established the ‘Karolos Koun Art Theatre New Director Award’ to support and highlight the next generation of Greek directors. This new annual institution aims to honor the legacy of Karolos Koun, who viewed theatre as a continuous space for apprenticeship and new creative voices.

Nominations will be announced every September, with the award ceremony held in October. For the inaugural award, the committee reviewed productions from the last three years to ensure a broad representation of talent. The award includes a trophy designed by Marios Voutsinas and a 3,000 euro cash prize provided by an anonymous donor secured by Giannis Moschos.

The first award ceremony is scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2026, at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre on Frynichou Street in Plaka. Among the five nominees are Konstantinos Avramis for the production ‘O Pareisaktos’ and Sofia Antoniou for ‘Hamlet (machine)’.
