Karolov Hospital in Bulgaria reports higher staff salaries and millions in NHIF revenue

The municipal hospital "Dr. Kiro Popov" in Karolov is among the Bulgarian facilities paying doctors and nurses above the national average, according to data from the Diagnosis Bulgaria platform. By the end of 2025 the hospital recorded total revenue of 8,470,645 lev, with 6,732,655 lev (about 80 %) coming from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). Patient co‑payments amounted to 22.60 lev per person, totalling 92,542 lev – 79 % lower than the country’s average.

Salary data show department heads earning roughly 7 % more than the national benchmark (2,890 lev vs 2,712 lev). Doctors with two specialties receive about 22 % higher pay (2,900 lev vs 2,386 lev), while single‑specialty doctors earn 2,919 lev, 25 % above the national average of 2,332 lev. Nurses and bachelor‑level health‑care staff also earn above‑average wages, with nurses at 2,500 lev (34 % higher) and health‑care graduates at 1,907 lev (14 % higher). In 2025 the hospital treated 4,094 patients, with an average cost per patient of 2,048 lev.
