Kars agencies sign protocol for afforestation and environmental protection

The Erzurum Forestry Regional Directorate and the Kars State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) 24th Regional Directorate have signed a cooperation protocol titled ‘Afforestation and Forest Fire Prevention Cooperation Protocol’. The agreement aims to protect natural resources and increase green spaces in the Kars region.

The scope of the project includes environmental and afforestation activities within areas managed by the Kars DSİ 24th Regional Directorate, specifically targeting dam lake basins, reservoir shores, spillway surroundings, service roads, and recreational areas. Planned technical applications include erosion control, soil conservation, shoreline stabilization, landscape arrangement, and biotechnic methods.

Key objectives of the partnership are to improve water quality, enhance biological diversity, and contribute to climate change adaptation. Erzurum Forestry Regional Director Serkan Karakurt and Kars DSİ 24th Regional Director Serdar Kotan emphasized that these efforts will support the ‘Green Homeland’ initiative by protecting water basins and supporting natural life.
