Kars begins harvest of traditional Kavılca wheat

The harvest season for Kavılca wheat, a traditional ancestral seed with thousands of years of history, has begun in the high-altitude agricultural lands of Kars. Known for its ability to adapt to the region's challenging climate conditions, the wheat is being collected by combines after months of labor by local producers.

Beyond its economic value, Kavılca wheat is considered a vital part of Kars's traditional production culture and culinary heritage. Efforts are underway to make its production sustainable and to expand cultivation areas, which aims to provide farmers with higher income from this valuable alternative crop. The preservation of these ancestral seeds is also a key goal to ensure the region's agricultural genetic heritage is passed down to future generations.
