Kars pasture area expanded to 418,000 hectares under ministry project

The Turkish Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s regional project in Kars increased the province’s registered pasture (mera) area from 320,000 to 418,000 hectares over two years. 60 villages received pasture‑improvement work, including shade structures in 57 villages, distribution of over 250 tons of fodder‑seed, and fertilisation that local officials said boosted pasture productivity by up to 70 %. The effort was financed with more than 25 million Turkish lira.

Il Tarım ve Orman Müdürü Enver Aydın highlighted that the work aims to make Karslivestock sector more efficient and sustainable, noting the “‘Çobana Nefes, Sürüye Güven’” programme, the construction of 450 container homes for shepherds, solar‑powered water‑pumping projects, and the establishment of a pasture education centre.
