Kars soup kitchen opens to provide hot meals and disaster relief
The Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay) has launched a new soup kitchen (Aşevi) in Kars to provide year-round hot meal support to citizens in need. Established through a collaboration with the Kars Governor's Office Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation, the facility is located in the Şehitler neighborhood near Kafkas University.
Kızılay volunteers will deliver meals directly to the homes of those who face difficulties leaving their houses. Beyond daily assistance, the facility is designed with disaster response in mind, possessing the capacity to provide meals to approximately 7,000 people during potential emergencies.
Turkish Red Crescent President Fatma Meriç Yılmaz noted that the initiative aims to provide social contact for the increasing number of elderly people living alone, while Kars Governor Ziya Polat emphasized the importance of conducting these services in a manner that preserves the dignity of the recipients.
