Kartalkaya hotel fire victims' families launch justice vigil in Ankara

Families of the victims of the Grand Kartal Hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya are launching a justice vigil in Ankara. The fire, which occurred on January 21, 2025, resulted in 78 deaths and 133 injuries.

Starting Friday, October 2, the Kartalkaya Family Platform will hold the ‘78 Can İçin Adalet Nöbeti’ (Justice Vigil for 78 Lives) at Anıtpark in Ankara. The protesters are demanding that officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security be held accountable in court.

Oktay Akişli, representing the families, stated that although the Council of State granted permission to investigate nine personnel from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has not taken necessary steps. He also noted a lack of progress regarding personnel from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. This vigil follows a 186-kilometer march from Bolu to Ankara conducted by the families earlier this year.
