Karthi Chidambaram warns against constituency delimitation
Congress MP Karthi Chidambaram has addressed concerns regarding the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, stating that the DMK should not worry on behalf of the Congress party. Speaking in Manamadurai, he emphasized the need to protect the existing 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.
Chidambaram warned that redrawing constituencies based on population could reduce the parliamentary representation of southern states like Tamil Nadu. He noted that increasing the number of MPs to balance representation is not a viable solution, as it could lead to inefficiencies in parliamentary proceedings and potentially lead to gerrymandering to achieve favorable election results.
Additionally, he touched upon water disputes, stating that existing procedures for Kaveri water sharing should be implemented and that legal recourse through the Supreme Court is an option if orders are not followed.
